The TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon is back! 

The TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon is back, and we invite you to join us again on Saturday, October 19th for another exciting edition! This year, the marathon will host over 30,000 participants from across the globe, and will support 150 local charities.

We are looking for Course Water Station volunteers for the event. We focus on creative solutions to address the affordable housing crisis in Toronto, Brampton, Caledon, York Region and Durham Region. With the help of volunteers, donors and community partners, we unlock change for generations by bringing the benefits of home ownership to more people and communities. Since 1988, Habitat GTA has built 25 new communities, empowering more than 500 families.

Habitat ReStore is a chain of non-profit home improvement retail stores with 10 locations across the Greater Toronto Area, owned and operated by Habitat for Humanity GTA. We sell home furnishings, appliances, and other renovation materials at a fraction of the price. Our items are donated from businesses and individuals and undergo inspection and testing to ensure they meet our high-quality standards.

What you need to know:

·         An on-line orientation session is required before your first volunteer shift.

·         All volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old.

·         Volunteers under the age of 18 require a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

·         Shifts are self-scheduled via Online Registration. 

·         Volunteer shift is 8:30 am to 12:00pm, 12.00pm to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

·         Able to lift 10-20 pounds and be on your feet for several hours at a time.

·         Volunteers are required to wear CSA approved green label safety shoes. (If needed are available onsite for volunteers).

 

Warehouse Location: (101 Alexdon road, North York, ON M3J 2B5)

 Position Responsibilities:

·         Organizing Inventory: Sorting and arranging products for easy access and retrieval.

·         Packaging Operations: Preparing products for shipment with appropriate packaging.

Qualifications / Skills / Physical Requirements

·         Strong attention to detail with a keen eye for photography.

·         Basic knowledge of photography and image editing software (an asset).

·         Self-motivated, responsible, and eager to learn.

·         Effective communication and teamwork skills.

·         Positive attitude towards tasks and collaboration—teamwork should be fun!

·         Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

·         Must be able to commute to the Central Distribution Centre.

·         Data entry skills and general computer proficiency.

Volunteer role description:

Come with a willingness to learn from experienced volunteers and staff and to work as part of a team and become a habitat volunteer ambassador or mentor. Greeting and customer service in store and over the phone regarding donations, store promotions, return policy, and more. Supporting our eCommerce sales platform-with staging, photography and posting online. Product display set ups and merchandising. Product pricing, assembly, and repair of items. Due to the nature of some store the tasks volunteers may be asked to lift heavy objects (furniture, appliances, bathroom fixtures, windows, doors) Can or May perform heavy lifting (30 + pounds) with support equipment i.e., pump trucks and carts. The position requires regular walking, standing, sitting, and stair climbing. Uniform required for volunteers to wear are CSA approved green triangle label safety. Shoes (some available on site to borrow), cargo pants/jeans and non-branded shirt. A commitment of 4 hours minimum per shift and open 7 days a week and, there is always a variety of tasks to do. A positive attitude, enthusiasm, and a sense of humour is always key!
